My mentor has been truly instrumental in helping me secure several mini-pupillages (internships) and attend various networking events. After being rejected by the firm last year, I set out to address some of my weak points and to find a mentor who could help maximise my chances of landing an offer. Bridging Barriers was incredibly helpful, connecting me with a mentor at an elite consulting firm. Her support was invaluable as she provided useful insights into each stage of the application process and guidance on how to stand out as a candidate. As a result, I felt extremely confident going into the interview process and landed two offers from top-tier consulting firms. Bridging Barriers has been able to help me secure a graduate role, after a stressful difficult and emotional journey with the start of my career. Coming out of university during a pandemic was challenging, and it was tough to secure a graduate job. However, with the help of my star mentor Sofia, I was able to build my confidence skills and strengthen my job applications, which in tune helped me to secure a graduate job. I urge anyone that can, to not just become a mentor, but to become the best mentor a mentee can ever have. Thank you Bridging Barriers for everything.

Through the Bridging Barriers mentorship programme, I met the amazing Jade, who was working in the exact same company that I particularly wanted to enroll under. She explained details of the job role that I found difficult finding in my research, helped me completely upgrade my CV to specifically match the job descriptions, and improved my interview answers. It was also really nice being able to have a mentor who came from the same background as me, being a black woman and could understand and answer questions about what I could potentially go through in this industry. In the end, I landed the job as an Auditor in one of the Big 4! Soon, I hope to give back through this programme and in turn become a mentor so I can help other people, the way Bridging Barriers has helped me.

I was the first child in my family to attend university and to study law. As a student who did not attend a Russell Group university and had no prior legal work experience, I feared I could not get my foot in the door. During COVID-19, submitting applications for a 12 month industrial placement was daunting, and I faced multiple rejections and questioned myself. I applied to Bridging Barriers to get a better understanding of how to apply for legal roles and to have someone to guide me through the process. I was paired with a mentor who was a female who was in the legal profession. We had regular one-to-one meetings where we tailored my CV and cover letters to the applications and learned techniques to make myself stand out while also building on the confidence that was lost. My mentor guided me through the entire process and helped me to secure a 12 month placement at a global company. She is currently helping me to apply for a training contract. I am so glad and grateful I met her because it would not have been possible without her and Bridging Barriers.

Bridging Barriers has provided me with expert industry advice and links within the marketing field. I was lucky enough to have 3 mentors who individually all taught me different things such as perfecting my CV which has enabled me to confidently apply for many more jobs without the fear of getting rejected, luckily I was able to secure a few interviews. I have also learnt about building my network. Having my mentor put me in touch with other people working within the industry and getting me into other industry events I would have not been exposed to had Bridging Barriers not of connected me. Overall each mentor has instilled confidence in me to apply to many roles even if I am not qualified which I believe has had an impact on me securing my role today. I would highly recommend this program to all individuals who are looking for support within their careers and all who would simply like to build their network.

After I graduated from university, I was on the search for several roles and I applied for about 50 different jobs prior to using the services at Bridging Barriers. Each application I submitted was rejected and I felt like I wouldn’t be able to secure a job which made me very worried. However, I reached out to Kevin at Bridging Barriers and he set me up with mentor Festus who helped me improve my CV and gave me advice on how to approach job interviews. From using the help from my mentor I was able to secure a graduate role as a business consultant shortly after. Big shout out to Kevin and Bridging Barriers for the support!

The Bridging Barriers mentorship has been an amazing experience. After years of blindly filling in applications and receiving the dreaded “unfortunately on this occasion you have been unsuccessful” email. Having a mentor who is extremely successful in my chosen industry with a wealth of knowledge has been invaluable. After just under a year of fortnightly meetings my mentor was able to support me with improving my CV, reviewing my applications and guided me on how to effectively use LinkedIn to connect with other professionals. As a result of this, I received two job offers and my mentor continues to guide me on progressing in the next steps in my career and combating the challenges that I face in the workplace.

The mentorship programme has provided me with firsthand advice from my mentor which has been so beneficial to my professional growth. I have had a great experience and have learnt so much from our formal/informal discussions. My mentor has helped me in numerous ways; from helping me overcome some of my interview fears, giving me hands on advice and giving me overviews on the world of law. I have also been presented with multiple opportunities as my mentor would often encourage me to apply for job roles and schemes within the firm she works at, and has also been willing to help me in the search for a vacation scheme. I had many setbacks in my application process such as facing many rejections or simply not being picked for roles at the last stages, however my mentor really encouraged and reminded me to keep on going as rejection is redirection. I have had such a great experience with Bridging Barriers and can not thank them enough, not only for the opportunities but also for helping me overcome some Interview fears and helping me secure a Litigation Executive role. Overall I would recommend anyone to get a mentor through Bridging Barriers as it has been truly beneficial and I have been able to get a lot of advice and career tips from my mentor.

My first encounter with Bridging Barriers was in February 2022, I was at a point in my life where I felt very stagnant. Unmotivated, discouraged and mentally frustrated. I had just completed my degree and was job hunting. I came across the Bridging Barriers program whilst scrolling through instagram. I thought this would be a great program to join and it was also Free (very beneficial for someone who was unemployed at the time). I filled out the form and within a week someone from the team got in touch with me, spoke to me and matched me with a mentor. My mentor also got in touch with me within a week and set up our first meeting. Rere was very professional, non judgmental, good listener and resourceful. We had meetings weekly, where we would talk about goals, how to achieve them, reflective time and what I loved most is reflecting on the positives and pros. I took in the knowledge and advice she shared. Few weeks later I went for my first job interview. Unfortunately I did not get the job. That week we spoke about my strengths and weaknesses from the interview. Practiced some techniques and more tips! Went for my second interview and got the Job! Which I’m in for almost a year now. I’m very grateful for coming across Bridging Barriers and for all the support the program has offered. I will definitely be recommending it to friends. And Thanks to Kevin for setting this up and being diligent in his work.

Finding a mentor from Bridging Barriers was one of the best decisions I made in the past year. I had been going through my career only with the knowledge that I have gained by myself over the years, and I felt getting a mentor would take me to the next level. There were aspects of job searching as well as navigating the corporate workspace that I found difficult to navigate, and I felt a mentor would be perfect to support me in handling those scenarios better. When I had contacted Bridging Barriers, the team were very proactive in matching me with the most suitable mentor and they found me a mentor who I strongly resonated with. My mentor has been extremely supportive and has helped me to focus on where I want to go with my career using their own experience to reinforce their guidance. With their advice, I was able to secure a job that fully aligns with my career aspirations. Also, with the help of my mentor, I negotiated a higher wage than was initially offered, which was a great result as I was negotiating my salary for the first time. Bridging Barriers helped me gain a graduate internship since my time working with Zoe. Zoe looked over and improved my CV and Cover Letter whilst giving me insightful commentary on how to portray myself professionally when going for interviews or completing applications. During my final year of university, I began my job search for graduate roles and internships but I was faced with many rejection emails and many ‘You’re not what we’re looking for right now’. From this, I didn’t have much faith that I would be able to secure a grad role or internship after university but Zoe and Kevin consistently encouraged me to keep going and not let rejection deter me from gaining a role.
